A Synth-Laced Journey Through Love and Loss - Discover Harris Mac’s Astral

New York-based pianist, composer, and producer Harris Mac recently unleashed his sophomore album Oneonta. It's a thirteen-track offering, but today I'd like to hone in on the record's opening tune Astral, a warm and nostalgia-laced gem that eases the senses and soothes the soul.

A dreamy and synth-filled reflection on love, loss, and the natural world, Astral was penned on a farmhouse in upstate New York, where Harris relocated in search of peace and creative renewal. "I wanted to escape the chaotic party life of Brooklyn and be in a beautiful natural setting," he says. "Somewhere I could have peace and quiet".

Armed with his trusty Roland Juno 60 and an old piano which was in the house, Harris spent days moving between the two instruments, working on compositions. After meeting, falling in love with, and eventually separating from a woman, Astral was born, a song that captures the beauty and heartbreak of romance.

Inspired by pop, psychedelic, '80s synth, and neo-soul, Harris Mac has channeled raw emotion into a piece of music that's impossible to ignore. It's absolutely beautiful, and I can't wait to dive into the entire record!
