Clare Easdown Proves Conviction and Empathy Still Belong in Music with In Candlelight

My love affair with the music of Clare Easdown stretches back to the beginning of 2023. Her single, Burned Into My Past, had just entered my sonic atmosphere, and the majestic and calming tune set off a love for the Australian's sound that hasn’t wavered since that first listen.

A highly prolific musician, Clare released tons of new material over the months and years that followed, and today it's her most recent creation that I am honoured to spotlight.

Demanding presence, empathy, and action, In Candlelight is another stunning addition to Easdown's discography. An ethereal and cinematic reckoning recorded entirely in the artist's lounge, it's hard to believe such a towering piece of music came together in such an intimate setting.

"In Candelight was shaped by my personal belief that music isn't just entertainment: it's a vehicle for empathy and change," says Clare. "I want the song to remind listeners that war is never abstract - it's happening to people just like us."

Drawing on the fearless storytelling of artists like the late Dolores O'Riordan, PJ Harvey, and Massive Attack, Clare Easdown knows no other way but to confront social and political issues head-on. A fearless songwriter in a noisy world, she turns conviction into art.
