Dave Violenza's Incessante Is a Minimal Techno Mirage You Can’t Quite Escape
Hypnotic, immersive, and dare I say it, almost meditative, Incessante is the brand new offering courtesy of Melbourne-based electronic artist and engineer Dave Violenza. It's a tune that, to be frank, has taken me out of my musical comfort zone. But, the more I let its repeating patterns and meticulously stacked textures wash over me, the more I find myself revelling in its mystical aura.
A masterful fusion of ambient and minimal techno, Incessante is a brooding and intense piece of music. It's experimental, yet very approachable - and such a fine line is often tough to successfully tread.
Inspired by a lyric from Calcutta's hit track Giro con te, which translates into English as "And I'll stay still just to believe that others are moving," Violenza's latest release explores the endless loop of thought, time, and identity. It examines that feeling of moving without ever arriving, as it wraps you up in a sea of sonic patterns that penetrate every part of your body.
Inspired by the likes of Jon Hopkins, Andy Scott, Rone, and Floating Points, Dave Violenza has forged a unique and distinctive sound of his own. It's impressive stuff, and I look forward to hearing what he delivers next.
