Good Dreams Is a Joyful, Fuzzy Glimpse at Higher Selves Playdate’s Upcoming Album

Jessica and Steve met while in grad school. Both were studying poetry. Jessica is now an arts professor, and Steve does non-profit work.

Oh, and they're also a musical duo who just released one of my favourite tunes of the year!

Based out of Virginia and performing under the moniker Higher Selves Playdate, the pair put out their debut single five years ago in the form of This Is Not The End. Today, however, I'd like to focus on the pair's brand new track, Good Dreams - a fuzzy and synth-filled gem I'm totally hooked on.

There's a playfulness to the instrumental side of things that buzzes with warmth and invites the listener in, and there's just a certain je ne sais quoi to Steve's vocal performance that seals the deal completely. The whole thing is loud…yet somehow intimate too.

Good Dreams will form part of Higher Selves Playdate's upcoming album, The New Apocalyptic. Scheduled for release at the end of next month, Jessica and Steve describe the record as "pro joy, anti-fascist music. Music made with the belief that: Art is political. Play is political. Love is political"
