Best Track I Ever Produced is undeniably one of the most intriguing records I've come across. Not just this year, but perhaps ever. Courtesy of Brazilian producer Krey Galin - and the result of a collaboration between Gregory Allen Jr., Phil Allen, and Tim Steele - the twenty-four-track instrumental offering is an ambitious and wonderfully varied collection of tunes. From the rocking opener Baronmikey to the cinematic beauty of a piece like Strongerthanevr - and everything in between - it's an album that keeps you guessing at every turn.
Recorded in Stone Mountain, Georgia, and using what Gregory calls "ancient equipment", Best Track I Ever Produced isn't a bunch of songs that have been "pushed to market". Like a fine wine, they've been maturing and evolving, picking up their own character and depth along the way.
Personal favourites off the record include BachataTr2, a breezy, summery little gem that just hits all the right spots. Then there's elektrikrush, a punishing piece of EDM that comes completely out of left field. Finally, I have to shout out Mestica: haunting, stunning, and simply brilliant.
Dedicated to the late Tim Steele, who battled depression and substance abuse, Best Track I Ever Produced is a truly special body of work. I implore you to give it your time, because it's worth every second!
