Rich, Layered, and Deeply Moving: Soek Delivers Sophomore Single We Were Taller Then

Soek is the musical project of Grant Borland, a Michigan-based composer whose work you may have actually heard before. Creating compositions for major platforms like Netflix, Apple TV, and Disney+, Grant has lent his sonic signature to countless cinematic worlds. Now, with Soek, he's shifting his focus inwards and pouring that passion into something entirely his own.

In June, Grant delivered his debut single in the form of Scania, a haunting and layered instrumental that laid down a marker for what the Soek project is all about. Then, he made us wait. July, August, September…nothing. But then October arrived, and with it came We Were Taller Then, Soek's mesmerising follow-up.

Featuring live strings from both Martin Kutnar and Session Strings Studio in Croatia, Grant's sophomore single is a hugely emotional and immersive piece of music. The blend of organic and electronic instruments creates a soundscape that feels somehow vast and intimate simultaneously.

Exploring themes of simplicity and nostalgia, We Were Taller Then draws sonic inspiration from fellow composers like Ólafur Arnalds and Max Richter. It's rich and profound and truly moving. It's also amassed over 11,000 plays on Spotify alone, and I simply can't wait to see where Soek takes us next. Fingers crossed it's sooner rather than later!
