Saline Eyes' New Single Alone Floats Between Fragile Intimacy and Soul-Bearing Soundscapes

Released last Friday, Alone is the fourth offering of the year from Ohio-based singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist James Hackett, better known as Saline Eyes. Steeped in emotional nuance and filled with a rich and sumptuous centre, it's one of the most moving tunes I've heard all year.

A meditative exploration of relationships, memory, and identity, Alone floats through its themes with quiet intensity. James' haunting vocal performance weaves between expansive and gently layered instrumentation, before closing with an evocative drum-driven section salvaged from the original demo.

"The drum aspect is a bit unconventional," admits the artist. "The outro drums were the original end chorus drums from the demo, but after recording the new drums in the studio, I still couldn't shake the fact that I wanted those original drums."

Serving as the lead single from Saline Eyes' forthcoming EP, Alone is wonderfully shaded with Hackett's sonic inspirations. From hints of Jeff Buckley to notes of Elliott Smith, it's a soul-bearing piece of music that stays with you long after the final note.

An exceptional song from a hugely gifted musician!
