Saline Eyes Turns a Dreary Day Into Sonic Magic on Latest Tune Autumn Rain
My previous encounter with James Hackett's work was less than two months ago, when I stumbled upon the singer/songwriter's rich and nuanced single Alone. Performing under the moniker Saline Eyes and based in Ohio, James has had a very productive 2025, and I believe that the quiet hum around his music is beginning to grow louder.
Autumn Rain is a tune that forms part of Saline Eyes' debut EP, a six-track offering released just last week. It's an EP that I implore you to absorb entirely, because it's absolutely genius, but today, I'd like to focus purely on Autumn Rain.
Expanding on the lush and cinematic vibes of previous releases, Autumn Rain is a song with a spring in its step. It's warm and inviting, and beautifully pieced together from start to finish. Once again, James' vocals shine with an understated brilliance - tender, soulful, and utterly effortless - you'd be forgiven for assuming this is the work of a sonic veteran.
Reflecting on the "birth" of Autumn Rain, James recalls lying in bed on a dreary and damp autumn day. "I was lying underneath a skylight, and most of it was covered in wet, fallen leaves," recalls the artist. "Rain was gently tapping on the window, and the lyrics for the chorus just kind of came to me."
Just as I said before, and I’ll gladly repeat - an exceptional song from a hugely gifted musician!
