terminal by Wotts Is Indie Pop With Its Head in the Clouds and Heart on the Ground

If you know me, you know Wotts. Why? Because I've hardly been able to shut up about the Canadian indie pop duo ever since I first discovered them! Comprised of producer and vocalist Jayem and bassist and guitarist Ricky 100, they're one of the very few acts that I hold in such high regard; I’d probably be tongue-tied if I were ever to meet them.

Tunes like ALLO!, Wilson, and Better Days feel less like tracks on my playlists and more like trusted companions I’ve carried with me over time. And so, without further ado, allow me to introduce you to their latest single, terminal.

An R&B and hip-hop-infused indie pop gem, terminal finds its sonic inspiration in the likes of Tame Impala and Childish Gambino. That said, I'm also picking up hints of the late Mac Miller's hazy introspection and free-spirited flow - which makes perfect sense once you discover Wotts actually began as a hip-hop collective.

Coping with the end of a relationship, terminal leans into that liminal feeling of waiting. "I kept picturing an airport," says Jayem. "You go through the motions to get through things, but in the end, you just have to sit around for a long time before you can get to the next spot."

Another genius piece of music that Wotts can proudly add to their arsenal, terminal is a glowing reminder of why this duo continues to mean so much to me.
