Thain Captures Hip-Hop Chemistry in Real Time on New Track Still Sick
Live instrumentation…face-to-face chemistry…one organic session…it's the kind of old-school hip-hop craft you just don't see much of these days. That's why Still Sick, the brand new offering from Wichita-based artist Thain, hits like a breath of fresh air.
Teaming up with Steven Shields and Hippy K, Thain (real name Tyler Haines) and Co. have concocted a raw and energy-driven burst of unfiltered hip-hop. Sharp, concise, and loaded with confidence and intent, it's a tune that was somehow written, recorded and mixed in just four hours. I'm not going to lie…usually, that approach is a bit of a gamble. But this time, they've struck gold.
"This song is a captured moment in time with three individuals collaborating for the first time," says Thain. "The excitement was palpable!"
Still Sick nods to the golden era of Eminem and Dr. Dre: the urgency, the fire, the power - it's all there. Other heavyweights like Kendrick Lamar and Big Sean are also cited as influences, but there's an undeniable originality at play here.
A track that gets better with every listen, my only real gripe regarding Thain's latest release is its brevity. I want more. I need more! Hopefully, the follow-up is already in the works.
