War Killer Finds ReeToxA at Their Most Political and Uncompromising
Three months ago, a Melbourne-based outfit called ReeToxA unleashed a sprawling twenty-six-track album called SOLILOQUY. Under the guidance of frontman Jason McKee, the expansive record truly has a little something for everyone. Jason even reckons it'll "make you rethink every emotional moment, good or bad, you have ever had, if you give it a chance." That's a bold statement - but I'm beginning to understand why he's so confident.
Now, while I'd love to go deeper into SOLILOQUY, today, we'll be focusing on track twenty-two, War Killer, a song ReeToxA recently reintroduced as an official single in its own right.
A raw and pummeling piece of gritty punk rock, War Killer is Jason's first foray into political songwriting - and a tune that almost didn't make it on to the album. Aggressive, turbulent, and with a fire in its belly, the inspiration came upon seeing Donald Trump and Kim Jong Un's historic summit.
"Can't we all just celebrate a great occasion, no matter who we support?" thought Jason. And it's that sentiment that would eventually evolve into one of the most furious and confrontational moments on SOLILOQUY.
Powerful, thought-provoking, and at its core a track about unity, War Killer proves that speaking one's truth is what gives music its real weight and depth.
