7am Shows The Sleepy Haunts Swerving into a Bold and Pop-Infused Lane
7am is the brand new single courtesy of Seattle-based outfit The Sleepy Haunts, and it marks a shift in the band's sonic landscape. Leaning into a more 90s-influenced sound and finding inspiration in acts like The Cranberries, the group's latest release is a confident step into new surroundings. Infectious, evocative, and instantly memorable, 7am is fast-becoming one of my go-to tunes.
Penned by the outfit's frontwoman, Gillian McMahon, and exploring her journey as a nursing student, the song was actually born from a curious moment. After watching the American medical drama series The Pitt, Gillian noticed the striking lack of music throughout the show - and felt she needed to fill that space with something of her own.
What she came up with is a beautifully reflective piece of music that is deeply human and real.
Having shared the stage with artists like Ricky Montgomery and Jonah Marais, The Sleepy Haunts' stock is clearly on the rise. Last year's album, BLOOM, was exceptionally well received, and I can only see 7am reaching similar, if not more impressive, heights.
Recorded alongside Tyler Mays and Juliet Daniel, 7am is truly the perfect track from start to finish, and I can't wait to see what the band has next up their sonic sleeve!
