A Genre-Bending Detour Worth Taking - Discover Tom Minor's New EP The Manic Phase
To be honest with you, it can often become hard trying to find the right words to describe one of your favourite artists. When their music has lived with you for some time, you almost stop analysing - and just hand yourself over to it. Such has been my experience with London-based singer/songwriter Tom Minor. From It's Easy to Play Hearts, my first introduction, all the way to March's funky little number Expanding Universe, Tom's work has recently soundtracked many of my days and nights.
Last month, Minor delivered a four-track EP in the form of The Manic Phase. It features the aforementioned Expanding Universe as well as another one of my go-tos - Future Is an F Word. In fact, only one tune from The Manic Phase is "brand" new: its self-titled opener. Cinematic and expansive, it's yet another shining example of Tom's genre-fluid approach to songwriting.
The last song to make up The Manic Phase is Saturday Eats Its Young, a track that actually served as the artist's debut single. A rocky and highly inventive tune that keeps the listener on their toes, it’s bursting with that early-career unpredictability that, thankfully, Tom has somehow never lost.
