An Economics Lesson Proves VENMC Doesn’t Need Hooks to Command Attention

Primarily influenced by Killer Mike's legendary protest track Reagan, An Economics Lesson is the powerful new single courtesy of Los Angeles-based artist VENMC. Serving as the fourth installation of the musician's A History Lesson series, VENMC's latest release forgoes traditional song structure, opting instead for a single relentless and scorching verse. No hooks, no gimmicks, just a potent and fiery wake-up call to the violence that makes up the world around us.

Recorded in the artist's home studio, An Economics Lesson was produced by a UK-based boom-bap specialist known simply as Freddy. The two met online eight years ago and, though having never met in person, have built a sonic chemistry that defies distance and borders.

Explaining the message at the heart of the tune, VENMC says that whether we're aware of it or not, we all condone violence in our daily lives. "Our food, clothing, cars, and the very ground we stand on were all secured for us through violent means that we often take for granted."

A hugely thought-provoking and gripping piece of music, An Economics Lesson is a fearless addition to the A History Lesson series. The series is fast becoming required listening in my flat, and I can't wait to hear from VENMC again!
