Audren Showcases Her Full Artistic Scope on Poetic New Album Think Freedom
As one of our most featured performers of late, London-based multidisciplinary artist Audren feels more like part of the furniture around these parts than just another musician we admire. Having had the honour of reviewing her last three singles, there's simply no doubting the quality and consistency of her creative vision.
Think Freedom is Audren's latest release, an eleven-track offering that I’ve been eagerly awaiting for a while. Described by the artist as a "poetic picture of the tough world we live in and an invitation to make it smooth and beautiful," the album wonderfully showcases Audren's full artistic scope.
A New Page sets the scene by blending neoclassical arrangements with a folky undertone before giving way to The Good Road, a rich and immersive gem featuring an utterly stunning gospel choir.
When Freedom Dies is a tune that defies any attempt at categorisation and has to be heard to be fully appreciated, while its successor, Smile, People Smile! delivers a smooth, 90s-flavoured vibe that's impossible not to get swept up in.
Other favourites from the record include We're All Lost, We Want Funkey!, and A Beautiful Move. That said, this is not an album that tempts listeners to pick out individual moments - at least, certainly not in my case! Just superb!
