Prism Finds Cas Du Pree in His Brightest, Most Danceable Form Yet
Cards on the table…I've been a Cas Du Pree fan for many years - so this certainly isn't my first rodeo with the artist. That said, the magic of the Dutch singer/songwriter's work is that no matter how long you’ve been listening, the music never becomes predictable.
Prism is Cas' brand new single, released just five days ago. Serving as the follow-up to his How To Behave EP, it's a tune the musician describes as his "most upbeat and danceable offering to date." Let's put that sentiment to the test.
Inspired by Dua Lipa and Sam Smith's more recent work, Prism takes the form of a sleek, shimmering, dancefloor-ready pop song. It's wonderfully warm and inviting, with a smooth, luminous flow that unsurprisingly presents yet another fascinating new chapter in Cas' artistic evolution.
Recorded alongside Arron Storey and Hugh Webber, Prism leans into movement and light without ever compromising the personal and introspective songwriting that has always defined Cas Du Pree. So, in that sense, it’s still very much Cas Du Pree doing Cas Du Pree things - just with a bit more flair and bounce.
Reflecting on the tune's meaning, Cas says that he is the prism in the track. "I can really give you a real colourful and friendly person if you bathe me in light, but bring me darkness and get pitch black in return."
