Blueprint Tokyo Sharpen Their Indie Rock Sound on Superb New EP Dark New Days

Last year, Oklahoma City-based five-piece Blueprint Tokyo delivered an album I'd been patiently waiting for. Neon Circuits and the Mission of Hope was its name, and there was a depth and density to the sixteen-track epic that went way beyond my expectations.

Since then, the outfit has released three superb singles, keeping the energy alive while continuing to refine their sonic identity. Pulling those tracks together with three brand new ones, Blueprint Tokyo now presents Dark New Days, their latest EP.

An urgent and synth-driven gem called Orange Tiger gets the EP underway and sucks you into the band's intoxicating sound immediately. It's a genius opener, and I think it would land perfectly as an opening song at a live show.

Here's Your Story showcases the grittier, edgier side of Blueprint Tokyo's sonic palette. Powerful and intense, it's definitely a change of pace, but I'm certainly not complaining.

Just Repeat Myself has an anthemic, pop-rock vibe to it that gets the blood flowing, before gently fading out and making way for the warm, emotional, and comforting sounds of Change My Mind.

Art of Betrayal and Nite Valerie complete Dark New Days, and I’ll leave those closing moments untouched for you to experience on your own. All I'll say is this…what a group!
