Caleb L’Etoile Unleashes Raw Chaos and Pure Menace on Starling
Virginia-based artist and producer Caleb L'Etoile is a seriously prolific musician. Why - just this year - he's already released five full-length albums!
My introduction to his sound came in the form of AW HELL, a tune from his American Death record. Describing it as a "sprightly and artful tour de force," the track kicked off my fascination with Caleb's work, so naturally, I found myself drawn to his noisy new album, PS, especially the whirlwind brilliance of Starling.
Serving as the nucleus of PS, Starling is a dark and moody song - and the first written for the record. Caleb says it's the tune that shaped the sound and spirit of the album, and once you're thrust into its gritty and booming soundscape, you can almost feel the initial spark that ignited PS.
Described by the artist as a "devil-tinged song where menace and humanity blur together," Starling is a sharp pivot from AW HELL. And, I'll be honest…it took me by surprise. The thing is, though, there's a magnetic pull to Starling (and the rest of PS) that's just irresistible. The unease…the distortion…the chaos…it's all highly exhilarating.
Sitting comfortably in Caleb's ever-expanding and genre-blending discography, Starling showcases a musician who very much goes where the music takes him. It's fearless and inspirational stuff!
