Pisgah Crafts a Masterful and Cinematic Slow Burn on Bend to Break
Okay, I have to admit, my love for Brittney Jenkins' art has officially reached its sonic zenith. Admittedly, the London-based singer/songwriter who performs under the moniker Pisgah only entered my world recently, yet every tune I've heard has pulled me deeper into her world of dreamlike honesty and melodic grace.
Serving as the third single of what will eventually become her new album, Pisgah's latest offering, Bend to Break, is another masterful piece of lush brilliance. Allowing itself space to stretch and expand, it's a song that blossoms slowly, drifting through waves of cinematic intensity.
Clocking in at over five minutes, Bend to Break is the lengthiest track of Brittney's recent trio of singles. A slow-burning odyssey where every layer feels carefully positioned, it's the sort of tune one instantly gets lost in - and that's the true power of Pisgah's artistry!
Reflecting on the purpose behind the song, Brittney mentions that Bend to Break is "partially me putting myself in the shoes of my parents before they divorced, and partially me reflecting on why I needed to put an entire ocean between myself and where I come from."
Inspired by the likes of Ryan Adams, Magnolia Electric Co., Aimee Mann, and Emma Ruth Rundle, Pisgah is still in her opening act. And, somehow, I don’t think we’ve even seen her full magic yet.
