Derby Hill’s Self-Titled EP Is the Sound of a Storyteller Stepping Forward

Hailing from Detroit and now based in Chicago, Derby Hill is an up-and-coming singer/songwriter who's just delivered his debut offering, a spectacular self-titled five-track EP. Recorded in basements and hall closets, Derby's first release showcases a storyteller as much as a songwriter, as he delves into the struggles and triumphs of everyday life.

Influenced by everyone from Leonard Cohen and John Lennon to Richard Pryor and his uncle Homer, Derby's music is brutally honest - and aims to make those who hear it feel a little less alone.

Restless and Forgiven opens the EP and instantly plunges the listener into the artist's warm and heartfelt soundscape. Somehow intimate and expansive simultaneously, it's a beautiful start to proceedings, and seamlessly gives way to Red Honey Wine, another stunningly rich, textured, and candid piece of music.

Come Back Home is gentle and wistful. A swayful and laidback gem that hits all the right notes, it's another fine example of Derby Hill's songwriting craft, and leads us softly into the magical sounds of Anything's Possible Here.

In a Matter of Moments completes Derby Hill's EP, and it's a tune that I shall leave you to discover on your own. Needless to say, what this talented musician has produced is one of the best debuts I've heard!
