Every Other Weekend Turns Grief into Gentle Clarity on Memories
Memories took shape during one of the more turbulent periods of its creator’s life. Crafted by London-based singer/songwriter Chris Bull, who performs under the moniker Every Other Weekend, it's a tune that deals with the death of the artist's father, the breakdown of his marriage, and the collapse of his previous band City Reign. For most, such a heartbreaking set of events would feel insurmountable, but for Chris, they became the raw material for Memories and his forthcoming debut album, All Present and Inept.
A soft and welcoming piece of music, Chris's latest offering is the sound of a musician "figuring things out." Leaving all sonic bells and whistles at the door, Chris opts for restraint over complication, allowing the emotional weight of the track to take centre stage. That's not to say the song feels bare - far from it - but its power lies in its purposeful and considered approach.
"In one sense, the song is just a snapshot of where my head was at the time," says Chris. "But in another, there's something there about how we live our own truths, and what memories we hold dear to help us do that."
Although a release date remains unannounced, All Present and Inept has been seven years in the making. And, if Memories is anything to go by, I believe we're in for something rather special!
