Dream Finds The Numb Project Floating Between Tenderness and Change

Earlier this year, I had the privilege of interviewing Chris Calarco, a Portland-based producer who performs under the moniker The Numb Project. Known for his downtempo and moody compositions, I was instantly drawn to the spacious textures he was delivering so delicately.

Dream is Chris's brand new single, a beautifully atmospheric and dreamy piece that floats along on its merry way. Inspired by the likes of Four Tet, Tycho, and Boards of Canada, it's a tune that expertly balances the melancholy of trip-hop with boom-bap’s swagger and IDM’s inventiveness.

Clocking in at three minutes and ten seconds, Chris's latest release breezes by. The genius of his music, however, is that regardless of runtime, his songs stay with you well after they end.

Describing Dream and its B-side, Limited Minutes Remain, as "odes to a dearly loved one and our precious relationship to time," Chris Calarco has wonderfully captured the tenderness of human bonds and the inevitability of change.

With so much heart and warmth lying beneath everything he touches, The Numb Project's expanding discography shows no signs of slowing down.

That's good news for lovers of lush soundscapes, and I can't wait to hear what he gets up to next!
