emmylou is an Album that sees Glass Cabin Perfect Their Americana-Infused Sound
I often find that the new year has a funny way of reconnecting us with old favourites. Be it music, people, or memories, those familiar comforts never seem too far away. With that in mind, it is my honour to introduce you to emmylou, the third album from Glass Cabin, a Nashville-based duo whose work has stayed with me long after I first discovered it in 2023.
Featuring eleven tracks and with a runtime of forty-three minutes, emmylou feels like the culmination of many years spent sweating and toiling away. Jess Brown and David Flint's unique blend of Americana and alternative country is deeply saturated in every corner of the record, and perfectly showcased on the album opener, Nightcap.
A little raw and wonderfully gritty, Nightcap gets the record underway with purpose and character, before giving way to the sweetly infectious and heartfelt sounds of That's What Love Can Do.
I Don't Know is a slow-burner that ushers the listener in gently and then wraps them up in a warm, rich glow, with its predecessor, Didn't Say, following in a similarly reflective and unhurried groove.
Other favourites included What I Do, the album's title track, and the duo's masterful cover of Fleetwood Mac’s pièce de résistance, The Chain. A stellar offering from a highly gifted pair!
