FiveSidedDice Packs His New EP, Kintsugi, With Punk Fire and Unexpected Turns

Now…cards on the table…I might not be totally objective with this one. But what can I say, local pride runs deep! 

FiveSidedDice is the brainchild of Roscoe Nefdt, a one-man musical powerhouse from South Africa. As FiveSidedDice, he's been steadily releasing music for nearly twenty years - while also somehow finding the time to start and play in three bands. That's a lot of musical ground to cover, so for today's purposes, I'd like to hone in specifically on Kintsugi, Roscoe's new EP.

A five-track showcase of musical versatility, Kintsugi is such a smartly assembled offering. Misery, Fear of Heights, and Becoming This, the EP's opening three tunes, all come charging out the gates. Think fast guitars, big hooks, and plenty of attitude - with clear nods to the likes of Sum 41, The Distillers, Goldfinger, and No Use For a Name.

But then in steps The Angel Number, a proggy, immersive, and rich instrumental that's beautifully unexpected, eventually giving way to the EP's closer, Look Down. A striking departure from everything that came before, it's a song I'd like you to explore on your own. All I'll say is this: Roscoe Nefdt is the real deal, and I can't wait to catch him in the flesh one of these days!
