HalfCutLemon Bend Chaos into Catharsis on Shape-Shifting New Single Ointment
A potent blend of punk energy and melodic melancholy, Ointment is the deliciously eclectic new single courtesy of Copenhagen-based alternative rockers HalfCutLemon.
We begin with a ripping bassline, before a gritty electric guitar and powerful drums are added to proceedings. There's a serious post-punk vibe running through the veins of Ointment, and that's only enhanced when the vocals kick in. Add Danish underground icon Peter Peter on second vocals, and what you get is a raw and blistering tune full of heart and emotion.
The thing is, though, when we hit the track's halfway mark, Ointment is transformed into a lush and laidback slow-burner. Filled with cinematic textures and some exquisite string arrangements (provided by Peter Kyed), the song blooms into something unexpectedly tender, before it sends the listener for one last dip in a sea of chaotic catharsis.
A tune that will form part of HalfCutLemon's forthcoming album, This Ain't Real, Ointment explores the insecurities of youth and the ways in which people mask their vulnerability - be it through religion, aesthetics, or social identity. It's an absolute gem of a track, and I can't wait to hear from these fellas again!
