Hidden Shores’ Sprawling New Album, Mighty Oak, Is a Heartfelt and Unmissable Journey
Sure, Mighty Oak is an album containing eighteen tracks and has a runtime of over an hour and twenty minutes…But I implore you not to be intimidated. Courtesy of a Belgian music project named Hidden Shores - the sonic creation of an elementary school teacher whose identity shall remain a mystery - the grand offering is far more welcoming than its scale lets on.
Described as "an exploration of mood, memory, and melodic depth," Mighty Oak is an essentially impossible record to categorise. It's a sprawling and eclectic collection of tunes that drifts between heavy-hitting pop gems like Just Be A Kid and Yes Man, to the more reflective and acoustically-rooted sounds of songs like Volcano and Fading Light.
With each tune rooted in emotion and truth, it stands to reason that each will have a life of its own. Sometimes wistful, sometimes triumphant, sometimes philosophical…It's all part of the beauty when absorbing Mighty Oak in its entirety.
Other personal favourites off the album include the infectious and inventive sounds of Calm In My Storm, the powerful and hugely impactful Echoes Of Tomorrow, and the ethereal goodness of the record's penultimate track, Bird In The Sky.
A sonic adventure of epic proportions, Mighty Oak is staking an early claim for one of the albums of the year!
