Shelita Crafts a Weightless and Cinematic Gem on New Single Sailors
In November last year, I was lucky enough to review Shelita's rich and genre-blending tune I'm So In Love With You. A gentle and effortlessly cool little ditty, it was my introduction to the Los Angeles-based artist's sound, and I've been eagerly awaiting its follow-up ever since.
That's where Sailors enters the fray, Shelita's latest single, and a lush love anthem to the ocean. Beautifully capturing that feeling of navigating emotional storms, while trusting that love will find safe harbor again, Sailors moves with a wave-like sway. Softly rocking the listener from side to side, there's a weightlessness to the textured and cinematic track that's deeply hypnotic.
"The ocean taught me that waves always return, love always returns," says Shelita. "You can have a love that meets you with respect, depth, and devotion."
A very different sonic offering compared to its predecessor, Sailors spotlights the artist's magnificent genre-blending abilities. I'm picking up hints of Röyksopp, specifically their 2005 hit What Else Is There? featuring the vocals of Karin Dreijer.
A song that will form part of Shelita's upcoming and highly anticipated EP, Into the Depths, Sailors is another standout piece of music from this hugely gifted musician. And now, I think it's time to explore her entire discography.
