Jamie Alimorad Flips Festive Cheer on Its Head with Santa Sucks
Earlier this year, I was introduced to Jamie Alimorad, a Los Angeles-based singer/songwriter whose genre-fusing sound has earned him international attention. Two Wrongs was my introduction to his music, a crunchy and stadium-ready anthem I fell completely in love with, and now Jamie has returned with a somewhat unexpected Christmas tune called Santa Sucks. Let's dive in, shall we?
Described by the artist as a "sarcastic, joyful romp about not getting what you want for Christmas," Jamie's latest offering takes the cosy nostalgia of holiday music and flips it into a clever, tongue-in-cheek detour. A track for the young and the old who Santa has let down, Santa Sucks delivers a jangly, good-humoured middle finger wrapped in tinsel.
Enlisting the help of his music students, as well as family and friends for background vocals, Jamie has put together a Christmas revolt of communal catharsis. It's wonderfully unique and inventive, and showcases a musician unafraid to have a little fun - without ever letting his craftsmanship slip.
Mixed by Jordan Sherman and mastered by Makoa Johnson, Santa Sucks is an instant cult classic! And, while it may not be the Christmas song Jamie Alimorad imagined he'd write, it's the exact antidote I needed to counter all the sugar-coated holiday clichés I've heard too many times.
