KINSALE Craft Heartfelt Indie Gold on Debut EP Nights & Weekends
Nights & Weekends is the debut EP from Georgia-based act KINSALE, and it's easily one of the best records I've heard this year. A six-track offering that masterfully blends elements of indie rock, Americana, and folk, it's an album that already sounds seasoned - if you know what I mean. Seasoned by experience, yet shining with fresh ideas, it’s clear that Raymond Gurley, Jeff Malpass, and David Thornton have spent years honing their respective crafts.
With an influence list that looks remarkably similar to my CD collection, KINSALE find inspiration in legendary acts and artists like R.E.M., The War on Drugs, Wilco, The Format, and Tom Petty. It's that innate grasp of timeless songwriting that shines throughout Nights & Weekends, whether you're taking in Is It Time, the anthemic opener, or Spinning Wheels, the deeply moving closer.
Sandwiched between the tunes mentioned above are four delectable pieces of music that hit the sweet spot between nostalgia and now perfectly. Cannot Be Found is a driving and upbeat banger, while its successor, October, showcases the softer side of KINSALE's sound.
Carolina is a truly special track that features Ethan Fogus on pedal steel, and Give Me One Thing is one I won’t say too much about. Go and uncover its magic for yourself. Trust me, it's worth it!
