Laji George Brings Grunge Intensity and Cinematic Depth to New Single Washed Away
Two months ago, I discovered a track called This Is My World by New York City-based songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Laji George. A vulnerable and introspective rock ballad, it wore the influence of legends like The Beatles and Chris Cornell proudly on its sleeve. Needless to say, it wasn't going to take much convincing to get me on board.
Since the tune's release, Laji has delivered two more singles: Sittin Here Thinkin and Washed Away. Now, while I implore you to listen to the former, today it's the latter that I'd like to bring to your attention. Introducing Washed Away.
A haunting and atmospheric slow-burner, Laji's latest offering has a distinctly rich, cinematic aura. Perhaps that's no coincidence, however, given that Washed Away was loosely inspired by Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.
Emotionally intense and deeply human, the melancholic track channels the raw edge of Seattle's '90s grunge scene. That said, the grunge influence is only part of the story. Hints of Jeff Buckley and even notes of Radiohead weave their way through the song, eventually converging into a beautifully textured and multi-layered soundscape.
Co-produced alongside Jonah Brockman, Washed Away is another fine addition to Laji George's discography. And at this point, I think it's safe to say that the artist's forthcoming debut album can't come soon enough!
