Mad Painter Keep the Spirit of Classic Rock Alive on Wide-Ranging New Album Island Poetry

As soon as I hit play on the new Mad Painter album, I knew I'd encountered their music before. But, to be completely honest, I had to dig pretty deep into my archives to find out when. Then, sure enough, the penny dropped. Debt Collector, the record's opener, was a tune I had the pleasure of reviewing (and falling in love with) about two years ago.

Island Poetry is the latest release from the Boston-based rockers, a twelve-track collection that's been described as the band's "most varied and ambitious release so far." And it's not hard to understand why - when you hear the broad mix of influences that Mad Painter draws from.

Tunes like the aforementioned Debt Collector and Suit Of Worries carry distinct shades of Deep Purple, while Empty Bottles and Spin Your Ventilator lean into the infectious boogie-rock of Status Quo and the punchy, riff-driven rock of AC/DC, respectively.

Beyond those four tracks, there’s a whole lot more to enjoy on Island Poetry. For me, You Dreamed I Was In Love and Two Horsemen deserve a special mention. That said, if you're not experiencing this record from beginning to end, you're missing a serious trick! It's a genius offering from an outfit that knows exactly what it's doing!
