Mark Cee's Debut Album, Ghost Talk Show, Takes Us Back to His Indie Folk Roots
Earlier this month, I had the pleasure of interviewing Long Island-based indie folk singer/songwriter Mark Cee. Through our discussion, I uncovered a musician who has been writing songs for decades - not for recognition - but for the sheer love of creating. Now, having reached a point in his life where he can fully embrace his passion, Mark has decided to start sharing what he's been quietly working on for all these years.
Ghost Talk Show is a nine-track album that Mark released last November, heralding his first real introduction to the world as a recording artist. A collection of short, stripped-back, and beautifully intimate folk tunes, he leaves all the bells and whistles at the door, favouring raw emotion, warmth, and honest storytelling instead.
Recorded entirely in his home studio, Ghost Talk Show has a wonderfully homemade quality to it - and I mean that as a compliment. Nothing feels forced or overworked - and that's exactly how Mark wants to present his art. “I don't chase polish for polish's sake," he told me. "I record until a take feels true, not until it's technically perfect."
It's been interesting to go back to the beginning after first discovering Mark Cee through his more recent releases. You can hear the foundations of the artist he's become today, and I really hope there's still plenty more to come!
