pistonspeak Widens Getting Started’s Anthemic Indie Rock Blueprint
At the end of last year, Chicago-based indie rock outfit Getting Started delivered a self-titled album that I fell completely in love with. A ten-track offering of energetic, anthem-filled gems, it was a record I proudly labelled as one of the finest I'd heard that year, and it's been a part of my regular rotation ever since.
Hoping I'd hear from them again soon, the band have taken a little longer than expected to reappear. That said, after just one listen to their soul-stirring new single, pistonspeak, you're only too happy to forgive them.
Described as "feeling like the strongest representation of the band so far,"pistonspeak has a glowing warmth running through every note. It's rich and beautifully textured, and showcases an act fully locked in creatively - certain of the sound they're after, and tapping into it with precision.
Jack Gallo's vocal performance is another highlight of Getting Started's latest release, striking the perfect balance between intensity and intimacy. Look - he was superb on the previous album - but I really think he's taken things to another level this time.
Serving as the first glimpse into what will eventually become another full-length record, pistonspeak is a truly genius piece of music, and Getting Started are quickly becoming a firm favourite around these parts!
