Rediscover Alone in a Crowd: Evan Wish's Beautiful Exercise in Musical Serenity

You're not wrong…here at Savoy Truffle Tunes, we generally focus on newly released material. At the same time, when an album like Alone in a Crowd enters your sonic universe, release dates suddenly feel completely meaningless.

Courtesy of world-renowned classical composer and pianist Sir Evan Wish, Alone in a Crowd features ten of the gentlest, most delicate, and uplifting compositions I've heard in some time. A thirty-five-minute meditation on everything from the transient moments we often fail to notice (Fleeting Beauty) to the harsh economics of music streaming ((For) Just a Penny), it's a record that's as thought-provoking as it is soothing.

Originally from Canada, Evan has travelled and performed extensively across the US and Europe. He's produced stage music in Paris and even studied with the legendary Dr Yakov Birman of the St. Petersburg Conservatory in Russia. Oh, and then there's this little tidbit: he's also been knighted by the Order of Saint George de Bourgogne in Italy.

Recorded in the fall of 2019, Evan's plans for Alone in a Crowd were scuppered by the COVID-19 pandemic. After fourteen months of preparing and financing a Japanese tour, he was forced to abandon everything. Little did he know, however, that the album would soon take on a meaning far beyond its original intentions. Majestic, engrossing, and utterly sublime, Alone in a Crowd is pure musical serenity.
