home Is an Intriguing and Potent First Taste of motko's Solo Sound
motko is the solo project of a Slovakian musician known only as Shorty - an elusive figure who prefers to let his music do the talking. Having spent many years playing in various bands, Shorty eventually became curious about what might emerge when working solo - so he decided to find out!
What emerged was a nine-track experimental rock album called home: a cinematic, textured, and beautifully mysterious body of work. Described as sounding "closer to a film than a playlist," the music is haunting and moody…gritty and potent.
wake up sets the scene: sparse, hypnotic, and highly intriguing. Then enters ready when you are, and it's another gentle, immersive offering. That said, you get the sense something big is building.
birds were telling us all the time is an absolute powerhouse of a tune, and by this point, you're well and truly inside Shorty's world - and he's about to send you on a sonic rollercoaster. From liberation to you better run and everything in between, home twists and turns and keeps you on your toes throughout.
A genius record, crafted by a hugely talented and fascinating artist, I'm hopeful that home is just the start of Shorty's solo career! And don't forget the lowercase is not a typo. Neither is the approach.
