Richard Tyler Epperson Gives Us Plenty to Unpick on Genre-Blurring New Tune One Thought Away

I knew the name Richard Tyler Epperson rang a bell. But, to be completely honest, I had to dig pretty deep into my archives to find out when. Turns out it was over four years ago - when an encounter with his dreamy and synth-soaked tune 2AM put him on my sonic radar.

And so, truth be told, I’m a bit embarrassed to admit that I haven't checked in on him for some time.

Many singles and even an album have followed the release of 2AM, and while I clearly have some serious catching up to do, today I'd like to zero in on One Thought Away, the Utah-based singer/songwriter's brand new track. Let's explore!

Reconnecting with his rockier, alternative side, Richard builds a genius slow burner that pulls you in straight from the off. Beginning with a bit of piano and the artist's gentle vocals, the song quickly changes direction, pivoting into a rhythmic spoken-word flow. Bass, drums, and electronic elements are then thrown into the melting pot, and from there, the arrangement never sits still.

Truthfully, One Thought Away has been one of the hardest tunes for me to capture in words. There's just so much going on, both sonically and thematically, that I'm still discovering fresh details with every listen. Absolutely stellar stuff!
