Midnight (to Track) Sees St. Divine Putting Politics Back into Rock ’n’ Roll
My previous encounter with the critically acclaimed New York outfit St. Divine was a little over a year ago. I discovered a tune called New Kind of Kick from their debut EP, and for all its wild and gritty chaos, the track instantly resonated. It was pure, undiluted music that just felt so refreshing, and I've been keeping a close eye (and ear) on the act ever since.
The Devil You Know is St. Divine's debut album, released in June of this year. One song that didn't make the cut, however, is a fiery, groovy protest tune titled Midnight (to Track). A warning shot in advance of the midterm elections, it's a track I am honoured to share with you today.
Raw, gritty, and infused with a psychedelic tinge, Midnight (to Track) wastes no time making its presence felt. Straight off the bat, the listener is greeted by a hazy, snarling guitar, and it's not long before Will Croxton and Judy Ann Nock make their vocal introductions. Cutting through the fuzz-laden instrumentation with urgency and conviction, the pair (along with the rest of the band) deliver a simple yet vital message: Please, vote!
A song that lives in the sphere of political pushback, something the outfit feels is sorely lacking in today's music scene, Midnight (to Track) is as timely as it is powerful!
