Rojo Finds Harris Mac Embracing Instinct, Isolation, and Unfiltered Sonic Freedom

Last year, I discovered a record called Oneonta. Courtesy of Harris Mac, an artist and producer based in upstate New York, the lush and colourful album quickly became a favourite of mine. Not one to rest on his laurels, Harris kept the creative fire burning - a pursuit which has already resulted in two new records this year alone. Whispers From Another Realm was the first, and Rojo soon followed, a fifteen-track offering I am honoured to share with you today.

Rooted in imperfection and texture, Harris allows Rojo to thrive in that beautifully unguarded space of sonic freedom - where instinct takes over, and purity trumps overproduction. Old synths, broken keyboards, and the musician's utterly immersive vocals are very much the order of the day.

Described by Harris as a "document of love, imperfection, and surrender: the sound of letting go and watching the universe create," Rojo was concocted in solitude, out in the woods. The combination of beauty and isolation became the emotional backbone of the album, and you can hear it in its shifting layers and hazy textures.

Personal favourites from the record include the highly inventive title track, the utterly intoxicating Vinyl, and the understated perfection of Bag. That said, if you're not absorbing Rojo from beginning to end, you're seriously missing a trick! A truly superb album!
