Songbirds + Sirens Explore the Unanswered Questions of Grief Through Dreamy Synths on New Single Somewhere
Ryan Smiley and Stu Miller are a husband-and-wife production team. They're also the brains behind Songbirds + Sirens, a newly established dream pop project that's already turning heads. Their first two singles, Danger Danger and What If, didn't take long to rack up thousands of Spotify streams, and their YouTube numbers have reached several times that figure.
Somewhere is the duo's latest offering, and through ethereal electronic textures and dreamy arpeggiated synths, they delve into the darker, more reflective side of grief.
"Why did I never ask a question? Why didn't I seek to know?" The opening lines immediately set the tone.
Spacious, immersive, and emotionally raw, Somewhere manages to say a lot in a surprisingly short space of time. It's barely over two and a half minutes, yet Ryan and Stu have managed to infuse the tune with a real sense of weight and expansiveness.
Acknowledging that "grief is never graceful," Songbirds + Sirens' new track isn't afraid to sit with the inevitable uncertainty. It's not here to provide answers, and that's OK. Sometimes there simply are no answers to be found, and all one can do is learn to live with the questions.
A special song from a special outfit, Somewhere is staking a serious claim for one of my tunes of the year!
