Sound Without Edges: Discover Yves Pilon’s Immersive Moment Elements

Released at the end of last year, Elements is less of an album and more of a spacious sensorial map, if you will. Courtesy of Canadian artist Yves Pilon, the twenty-eight-minute sonic adventure leans into ambient and IDM territories, full of depth and flavour. "I'm not trying to write songs," admits the musician. "I'm trying to build presence - moments that you can step into, even if you don't quite know why".

The expansive sounds of Generate get proceedings underway, immersing the listener in a moody and slow-burning hue that superbly sets the scene for what's to come.

Improv then steps up to the plate in a mysterious and evocative fashion. You find yourself expecting it to erupt…but it doesn't…and instead, it gently leads into the utterly hypnotic core of the record, its title track.

What follows is a deeply textured and avant-garde auditory journey. To start dissecting every tune, however, would be trying to flatten something that lives in 3D. Elements isn't a collection of songs. As its creator said, it's a moment you step into. It’s not meant to be broken down - it’s meant to be breathed in.
