Sssstephen! Delivers an Immersive and Emotion-Soaked Journey on New EP Triptychs
Triptychs is the ridiculously immersive and shoegazy new EP courtesy of Austin-based multi-instrumentalist Stephen Polanco, better known simply as Sssstephen!. A three-track offering that doesn't exceed six minutes in total, the collection unfolds like a single, continuous dream - just as its creator intended. Cohesive, emotional, and dripping with authenticity, it's an EP I instantly connected with, making it my honour to share it with you today!
Day Trip, the record's lead single, gets things underway. A deeply personal and vulnerable tune that thrives on a classic quiet-loud-quiet-loud architecture, it's a truly haunting piece of music that sucks you straight into the artist's warm and hypnotic soundscape.
Southpark Meadows then steps up to the plate, and arrives in a twangy, laidback fashion reminiscent of acts like The Magnetic Fields and Slowdive. Inviting and melodic, it's the sweetest little listen, before it hands things over to DMZ, an indietronica song with an alt-pop charm inspired by the legendary MGMT.
Triptychs is, for want of a better word, a serious trip. It's an experience in itself, and so much more than just "three new tracks".
It's also put Sssstephen! on my sonic radar as a musician to keep a close eye (and ear) on going forward. There's magic in these here corners, and I'm not about to miss any of it!
