The Gilhoolys Contemplate Humanity's Challenges on New Album The Truth is Not Your Enemy
It wasn't long ago that I was waxing lyrical about Glasgow-based indie rockers The Gilhoolys. They'd just released a single called Bad Routine, and the fervent, edgy tune was one that I fell completely in love with. Now, the outfit returns with The Truth is Not Your Enemy, their third full-length album, and it's a record I'm honoured to introduce you to today.
A ten-track offering that the band describes as "a reflection of the current times," The Truth is Not Your Enemy is a call to fight back against humanity's challenges. Passionate and human, it's a record for the thinkers and connoisseurs of true art.
Little Glasgow Boy kicks things off with a warm and anthemic pulse, setting the scene perfectly before handing the reins over to the album's title track. Plucky and stripped-back, it's a song that demands your attention - not with "loudness", but by introducing the listener to the heart of the record.
Parasitic Stereotypic is a twangy little number that feels very Gilhoolys-ish, if that makes sense, while its successor, Your Cartoon Life, showcases a bigger and more cinematic side to the act's soundscape.
With six more tunes to discover, my only question to you is this: what on earth are you waiting for? A truly killer album from start to finish!
