The House Flies Showcase a Heavier, Weightier Side on New Single Derelict Crawl

Derelict Crawl is the first glimpse into The House Flies' forthcoming sophomore album Lions and Ore, and if this eerie and potent tune is anything to go by, the new record is shaping up to be something rather special. Gritty, dark, and wonderfully weathered, it's a track that sounds like it's seen a few late nights - if you know what I mean.

Built around a driving post-punk rhythm and dense guitar work, Derelict Crawl shows a heavier, more forceful side to the outfit's repertoire. "We kept coming back to this one as the first song to release (from the new album)," mentions guitarist and vocalist Alex Riggen. "It has some of the record's weight and repetition without giving away too much of what comes later."

Based in Illinois, The House Flies describe themselves as a post-punk, dark-alternative, goth-influenced band. And I get that. I really do. But once I dug a little deeper into their music, I realised there's a whole lot more going on here than those labels suggest. The textures, the arrangements, the power…there's a real depth to what this act is producing.

With Lions and Ore set to be unleashed on the world on November 6th, Derelict Crawl is an extremely enticing appetiser. But now I'm ready for the whole thing!
