They Owe Us Puts Instinct Ahead of Polish on Compelling New Album Katzengold

Now, cards on the table, Katzengold is an album I've really been looking forward to hearing. Courtesy of Swedish musician and producer Kristoffer Ragnstam, AKA They Owe Us, the record is a deeply raw journey through the clutter of modern life - a beautifully unedited, instinctual collection of songs, shaped by melancholia, uncertainty, and nostalgia.

Kids Of The Tape Hiss gets things underway, and it also just happens to be the tune that first put Kristoffer's work on my sonic radar. A bouncy and energetic little rollercoaster, it's a tantalising taste of what lies ahead.

There Goes My Fairytale leans into a slightly different texture, pairing loose, rootsy verses with urgent guitars and a soaring vocal performance. Then comes the focus single, White Knuckle It, a rocky and intriguing number that expertly captures the artist's "cut and commit" philosophy. "Don't edit away the personalities," Kristoffer reflects.

With ten more tracks to explore, I feel like detailing every twist and turn would only rob you of the thrill of discovering this album. That said, a couple of my immediate favourites, apart from the aforementioned, are Frank, Hymn For The Jaded, and Holy But No Saints.

A truly fine addition to the discography of They Owe Us, Katzengold is staking a serious claim for one of my records of the year!
