Tonight You Belong To Me Gets a Dreamy Dub Makeover from Mike and Mandy

Hailing from Los Angeles, Mike and Mandy are an indie duo who've gained a rather impressive reputation for breathing new life into beloved classics. From their trip-hop cover of The Cure's Lovesong to their dub-tinged reimagining of the classic Latin standard Quizás, Quizás, Quizás, the pair have proved time and again that, while inherently risky, cleverly reinterpreted covers can offer listeners a completely different take on music they thought they already knew.

The 27th of last month was National Retro Day in America, and to celebrate, Mike and Mandy decided to go even further back in time: 1926, to be exact. The tune in question is Tonight You Belong To Me, penned by Billy Rose and Lee David, a song whose soul has endured for over a century because of the emotional truth carried in its varied melodies.

Bringing down the tempo and heading, once again, into dub territory, Mike and Mandy have excavated the track's original romantic pull. Slide guitars, expansive drums, and Mandy's dreamy vocal performance wrap the tune in a hazy and slow-burning glow that is simply irresistible.

Spacious and cinematic, the duo have done it again, and this time, they’ve conjured up a version that feels both timeless and thrillingly new. Just superb!
