What We Lost II is a Delicate Masterpiece by Celebrated Pianist Hanan Townshend

Hanan Townshend is an award-winning composer and pianist who, among many other pursuits, has worked extensively with legendary American filmmaker Terrence Malick. Raised on a remote coastal farm in New Zealand and now based in Austin, Texas, Hanan's work has reached millions of listeners worldwide - listeners who recognise the beauty of patience, space, and reflection.

What We Lost II is the artist's latest release and the first glimpse into his forthcoming album, What We Lost. Built around a rich, felt piano and the most delicate strings, the musician's new composition floats with a weightless elegance. Slowly revealing its deeply contemplative core, it's a masterful display of sonic nuance, where the quieter moments hold just as much substance as the more commanding ones. Cinematic, heartfelt, genius!

Reflecting on his upcoming record, Hanan mentions that it's a collection of fragmented ideas he'd heard but struggled to articulate. And this led him to wonder: "If music played when loss first entered the world, what would it have sounded like?"

What We Lost II is one of the most poignant and emotional pieces of music I've heard in some time. It sounds like something straight off of The Truman Show soundtrack, which, honestly, is the highest praise I can offer!
