All Over Finds Michael Wu Turning Social Friction Into Indie-Rock Gold
When an artist cites influences like Peter Buck, Johnny Marr, and Ben Gibbard, there's a very good chance I'm going to be on board with their music. Such has been the case with Michael Wu, an up-and-coming singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist hailing from Upstate New York. With three singles under his belt, it's his most recent, All Over, that I'd like to share with you today.
A tune that will form part of Michael's upcoming EP, All Over examines American culture's selective outrage and constant churn of emotional energy. Through Marr-esque guitar textures and a shimmering indie-rock backbone, it strikes the perfect balance between sharp social critiques and irresistibly catchy melodies.
Michael's vocal performance also deserves a special mention, as the musician delivers a heartfelt and deeply immersive presence that pulls you straight into the song’s core. Crediting engineer and producer John Carter for helping him develop his confidence behind the mic, Michael's striking vocals are a true highlight of All Over.
Gearing up for the release of his aforementioned EP, The Other Side, Michael Wu is an artist you don't want to be sleeping on. Having heard everything he's unleashed so far, I’m convinced we’re witnessing the early chapters of a musician with real longevity ahead of him!
