The Iddy-Biddies Invite Listeners Into a Rich Musical Tapestry on Sophomore Album The World Inside

The Iddy-Biddies are a Berklee-based indie collective led by singer/songwriter Gene Wallenstein. In 2024, the outfit released their debut album Teenage Dream and have since delivered a steady stream of singles, all leading to The World Inside, the group's sophomore eleven-track offering, released last Friday. Let's dive in, shall we?

Drawing inspiration from the storytelling of The Decemberists and the Beatles-esque harmonic complexity of Elliott Smith, The World Inside explores the masks we wear to negotiate this chaotic world. Fusing the intimate dissonance of indie-pop with the grandeur of Americana, The Iddy-Biddies' latest record is one of the most beautifully eclectic albums I've heard in some time.

It's Just a Show eases the listener gently into proceedings before making way for the psychedelic-ish sounds of Mr. September

Follow You Anywhere is a happy little ditty that gets the toes tapping, while its successor, the record's title track, delivers a light and atmospheric number that draws one deeper into the album's orbit.

Other personal favourites include Believers, Fortunate Son, and Words You Like to Say. That said, you'd be doing The World Inside a serious disservice if you didn't sit with it from start to finish. A truly magical LP that’s far too good to be cherry-picked!
