Bear Jr Delivers a Rock and Roll Triumph With Debut Album Every Little Thing
Every Little Thing already feels like one of those albums destined to take up a large portion of my forthcoming listening hours. Courtesy of Bear Jr, an independent artist based in Philadelphia, the explosive and cinematic thirteen-track offering is a true rock and roll extravaganza. Powerful, emotional, and masterfully pieced together.
Breaking The Chain gets the ball rolling potently and anthemically with driving rhythms and soaring vocals. It's the perfect scene-setter, before it makes way for the more introspective (though no less dynamic) tones and textures of Someday.
Black Rainbow is another absolute stunner, and it's around this point that the listener begins to appreciate just how talented a guitarist Bear Jr is. Making his instrument speak, he's able to move effortlessly between restraint and weight at the drop of a hat.
I'm hesitant to put a microscope on every tune off the record because, honestly, the strength of Every Little Thing lies in its cohesion. That said, other personal favourites include the formidable Awake, the lighter genius of songs like Low Places, High Hopes and Puzzle Pieces, and the album's crunchy closer Can You Feel It?
Standing out in a crowded field, Bear Jr has delivered a record that feels built for the long haul.
