The People Sees EGGER Craft Tension, Drama, and Minimalist Genius
The People is one of those tunes that takes a few listens to fully appreciate and understand. Once you "get it", though, you realise that its creator, an Austrian producer known as EGGER, is operating on a different sonic plane. Stripped-down, precise, and hugely impactful, EGGER's latest release explores the human condition through shadowy tension, measured beats, and hypnotic, almost ritualistic grooves.
Leaning into the aesthetics of dark 80s electropop, The People is an intoxicating blend of minimalism and drama. It's menacing yet seductive, designed to pull you deeper into Wolfgang Egger's simultaneously vintage and futuristic soundscape.
A track that, at its core, explores our endless search for meaning and transformation, The People is also a showcase of EGGER's storytelling ability. Transforming minimalist electropop into something intellectually and emotionally weighty, it's reminiscent of outfits like Depeche Mode, Boy Harsher, Cold Cave, and The Soft Moon.
The People serves as the follow-up single to EGGER's well-received debut offering, Strange Behaviour, released at the end of last year. There's no question he's an artist worth keeping a very close eye (and ear) on going forward, and that's exactly what I intend to do!
